July, 2023 |

Team “Pakka” participated in a Specialty Paper Asia conference held in Singapore conducted by Smithers group. This was a 2-day conference, 8-9th June 2023 that were focused on following 5 different sessions discussing on sustainable alternatives to conventional plastic packaging.

Session 1: Market Overview and Trends Analysis – Speciality Paper

Session 2: New Development of Fibre-based materials

Session 3: New research on specialty paper application for a sustainable future

Session 4: Trends & challenges in the development of bio-based barrier coating

Session 5: ESG and Sustainability

The major discussion in all the sessions were discussing on the cost-effective sustainable development in barrier properties of WVTR, OTR and the machinability during actual packaging machines and finally achieving the sustainability claims.

We also had a good session on high barrier primary packaging development for long shelf life by brand owners like Nestle, Pepsi co., and speciality paper manufactures, such as, Mondi, Koehler Paper etc.,

On the second intensive day of conference, covered trends and challenges in bio-based feed stocks, barrier coatings, ESG and sustainability presentations given by multiple speakers. We had a good interaction with chemical suppliers too on bio-based barrier formulations efficacy, scale-up, and cost efficiencies.

We had a good innovative time on these two days, gathering new strategies and new trends in paper packaging. As a result of this conference, we had a chance to expand our network and formed relationship with different brand owners, paper manufactures and chemical suppliers.  We had a fascinating trip to a developed Asia-Pacific financial and commercial high growth nation, and fruitfully spent on learning, networking, deliberations, and inputs for our innovations. We are geared up to present our side of innovations at scale in regenerative packaging in similar conferences in the future.
