Pakka Impact, one of the business units of Pakka, was founded in 2022 to create a cleaner Earth by innovating biomaterials at scale for regenerative packaging in food packaging and services. Based in Bengaluru, the innovations team consists of enthusiastic and energetic people who work together without limits. It’s pretty prestige-free, and every success is everyone’s success.
Last fiscal year was a roller coaster ride for Pakka Impact, with numerous positive developments as well as uncompleted tasks at the same time, which is a learning experience for all of us. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the team members for their rigorous efforts throughout.
In terms of last year’s milestone achievements, we are happy to inform you that the CIPET compostability-certified and food-safe qualified multi-layered paper-based flexi pack structure with significant barrier properties has been researched, developed, and patented by us.
We are working on multiple projects this year and hope to achieve a new milestone in 2023-24:
- We will focus to develop and implement packaging on a commercial scale for flexible packaging for the chocolate segment.
- Mineral pellets for cutlery are another important project on which we are working which focuses on waste valorization and upscaling.
- We were also successful in developing the spoon using lime sludge and our goal for this year is to commercialize the entire range of cutlery using the optimal recipe and our patented mold design.
The coming year will be more challenging for us as we spread our wings and take on a few new projects. On the flip side, we struggled to establish the lab in Bengaluru last year. However, we are confident that it will happen in FY 2023.
Apart from this, a great accomplishment was achieved by the team as we acquired an external project in the previous fiscal year for an injection moulded product development made from hemp fibre. We hope to receive more external projects aligned with our thought process this year.
We also showcased our products on an international platform last year at the Plastic Waste Free World in Germany, where we received a fantastic response from the visitors and delegates.
In the next year, we will continue to expand our innovation scope with the following interesting projects:
- Paper carry bags with a higher burst factor and strength using lower gsm paper.
- Explore the potato starch used for value-added products, and work together with Chuk on PFAS-free low moisture delivery containers.
We were in Goa a few days ago for AOP to set the goals and plan for the ensuing fiscal year. The concept of One Pakka has been appreciated and accepted wholeheartedly. With One Pakka, the innovation team will strive to be the foremost value creator on growth, commercialization, intellectual property, and co-creation.
I am confident that together as a team, we will be able to bring about a huge change. Once again, I would like to congratulate each one of you and wish you all the best for the upcoming projects and goals.
