What is energy efficient motor (EEM)?
As the name suggests “Energy Efficient” that means a motor which consume low power and gives the same output as the normal motor give and in some cases, the output of energy-efficient motor can be expected even more than that of a normal one. An energy efficient motor (EEM) is a motor that gives you the same output strength by consuming lesser amounts of power.
Energy efficient motors characteristic and its structural improvement:
- An energy efficient motor is a motor which gives efficiency (2% to 4% higher than other standard motors), runs at reasonably good power factor and has low power loss.
- They are manufactured with a change in the design of the slot shapes.
- Energy Efficient Motors (EEM) are those which specifically incorporate design improvements to increase operational efficiency as compared to motors of standard design.
- Design improvements focus on reducing internal motor losses.
- Improvements include the use of low-loss silicon steel, a longer core, thicker wire, thinner lamination, less air gap between stator and rotor, copper instead of aluminum bars in the rotor, better bearings and a smaller fan .
- Energy efficient motors operate with 3% to 4% more efficiency than standard motors.
- Energy-efficient motors are designed to operate without loss of efficiency at loads between 75% and 100% of rated capacity, keeping in view the stipulations of BIS. This can result in large advantages in varying load applications.
- Power factor is almost the same or can be higher than that of standard motors.
