“Water Conservation”

At Yash Pakka, we take various initiatives to take care of our mother earth, so here we are talking about one such initiative – “Water Conservation”. As we say at Yash Pakka, each passing day is “Environment Day” for us. We are putting our efforts to save every drop of water. Below are some of the initiatives that show how we are progressing with each passing day on conserving water.

MPS is low operation cost equipment gives us low TSS machine back water after settling heavy fibers coming with machine back water make it reusable for various process.

It is quite understood that machine back water is as good as fresh water once suspended fibers are removed from it. With this concept it was decided to reuse back PM – 3 backwater (800 m3/day approx.) as much as possible. MPS reduces the backwater TSS from 40 to 60 ppm but which is not suitable for LP/HP shower of the machine. For this problem MGF (Multi Grade Filter) was installed after MPS to capture the balance TSS coming out with the clarified water coming from MPS. After MGF TSS come down to below 20 ppm.

Purge of the MPS (MPS Underflow) was getting into the ETP drain directly and getting mixed with other effluent (Wet Wash, Leachate etc.).

MPS underflow (mostly contain rejected fiber from the machine) goes to hill screen at ETP to recover the rich fiber and then rich fiber goes to egg tray plant and filtrate water (TSS 500-600 ppm) get mixed with effluent coming to ETP from across the mill. Volume of this filtered water is around 300 to 400 m3/day. A save-all was installed after the hill screen to recover back the filtered water. Overflow of this save all (TSS 30 to 50 ppm) now sent back to a common tank (known as Horizontal Tank) from where this effluent is reused back into process.

Using machine backwater back into the machine itself is the best example of water conservation in a paper industry.

It not only saves the fresh water but also reduce the load to the Effluent Treatment Plant. Below charts are showing the amount of water we are savings each passing year in PM-1 & PM-2 & with each milestone achieved we raise the bar high which motivates us to achieve more & more in water sustainability.

It’s Already too late – The BBC reported on August 24 that Europe’s drought is the worst in 500 years, and several famous European rivers have run dry. China’s largest freshwater lake and longest river are also running dry. The Guardian said on August 19 that drought in the Horn of Africa has the potential to push more than 22 million people into starvation. At Yash Pakka we are putting our best efforts toward smart & sustainable use of fresh water.
