Our Flexi pack structure has been certified compostable
Last year was quite unusual because Pakka Impact Ltd. was incorporated with innovation as its foundation. The two major projects, i.e., Flexi pack and mineral pellets, made significant progress in the previous year. Flexi pack and mineral pellets-based cutlery were developed, as per IS 9845:1998 (re-affirmed 2018), food-grade safe. Multiple grades of flexi packs using various substrates and biopolymers were developed with high oxygen and moisture barrier properties.
We began the New Year with a renewed sense of optimism and energy since we received the positive news on the interim report on compostability testing for the samples submitted in July 2022. Our Flexi pack structure has been certified compostable as per ISO 17088-2021 and ISO 14855-1. We are currently working on the optimization and application development of this structure in primary and secondary food packaging. We fabricated cutlery from lime sludge and biopolymers using extrusion and injection molding processes, and the process and product optimization are in progress. In addition, we received our first externally funded project in January, which is focused on injection-molded biocomposite product development. We only had one month to develop the prototype for this project, but we are confident in the outcome.
In addition, we were working on the delivery container water absorption reduction and process optimization with the Chuk production team at Biolutions. In this task, we were able to reduce the delivery container’s water absorption percentage. Further work is in progress on process optimization and quality improvements of molded products.
