The Good garbage podcast

This month at Good Garbage we explored waste diversion through Shaun Miller from Envita, and a restaurant chain which has taken a leadership role in sustainability here in Portland, called Burgerville – through their Director of Supply Chain – Ciara Lamia and supplier, Beau Whitney from Everyday Hemp.

Both conversations were unique! If you know me – you know I was born and raised in the US in the Pacific Northwest. Since I was a kid, we’ve had Burgerville. When I was young, it almost seemed like fancier fast food. They had burgers, french fries and milkshakes. But there was something different about it – everything tasted fresher. You didn’t feel quite so bad after eating it. And sustainability was at their forefront. Fast forward to now – and I knew they would be great to have represented on Good Garbage!

What was special about this episode was that not only did Burgerville represented through Ciara, we also had a supplier – in Beau Whitney. It made for a fun dynamic as we got to explore their relationship. Check it out!

Shaun – who works as the Senior Director of Operations and Sustainability at Envita. In North America today Envita has approximately 4,000 customer facilities. Of those customer facilities, 60% of the 1.5 million tons of waste they manage goes to landfill diversions or other recycling means.

Shaun talks about this and more – we are super impressed by how customer centric they are, and hope you will learn as much as we did from this conversation.
